Reflexology is a treatment based on the principle that there are points on the feet, hands, and ears that are connected via the nervous system to corresponding organs and systems of the body. When pressure is applied to these points it stimulates the movement of energy along the nerve channels helping to restore a healthy homeostatic balance.
There is research suggesting that reflexology has an extremely positive influence upon the way the brain registers pain. The ability of reflexology to unblock nerve channels, relieve stress and improve mood, is paramount in reducing the sensory action of the pain centres within in the brain. Reflexology by helping to maintain the flow of vital energy throughout the body, has been shown to exhibit positive effects on breathing, blood flow, immune response, digestion and indeed the body’s vital functions in general.
Reflexology is complementary to medical treatments and it can work alongside traditional care.
Based on current research, reflexology may ease:
Initially it is important to get to know you in terms of lifestyle, diet and general health; paying particular attention to any current health concerns, and as such a case history is taken in order to gather the relevant information, and to determine whether reflexology is right for you.
Your session will begin by gently cleaning your feet. Initially, a mild to moderate pressure will be used on your feet using a number of different techniques, after which a fully comprehensive treatment covering the entire area of your foot, will be carried out paying particular attention to any trouble spots that may arise.
Sessions are usually 60 minutes long. At some point, you might feel so relaxed that you fall asleep, or you may experience a rush of emotions as energy moves through your body. Afterwards most people have a greater sense of vitality and a deep feeling of inner peace.
You may have a reflexology session occasionally, or initially on a weekly basis over a set period of time.
Stress Management
Feeling healthier and building resilience can be achieved through advanced reflexology protocols. I am qualified to deliver Reflexology NEPIP (NeuroEndoPsychoImmunoPody), a technique only reflexologists trained to level 5 can perform. Studies have shown that stress can have a detrimental effect on other body systems.
The purpose of NEPIP is to increase the communication between the mind, immune, endocrine, and nervous systems and is particularly effective in people suffering from stress and anxiety.
Fertility and Hormone Imbalance
Having regular reflexology can be beneficial for those suffering fertility problems. It can help hormonal imbalances, regulate the menstrual cycle and relieve the anxiety of being unable to think of anything other than having a baby. Stress can have a negative effect on the ability to conceive, and reflexology is known to be both soothing and relaxing. Regular treatment, in conjunction with coaching, can make a big difference for those struggling to conceive.
Throughout Pregnancy
Reflexology can be used safely throughout pregnancy. Whilst pregnant, regular Reflexology treatment will focus on relaxation, which is paramount in supporting a straightforward labour and birth. Research has shown that women who have reflexology during their pregnancy are more likely to give birth at full term and have shorter labours requiring less pain relief.
